Importance Of Reviews On Yelp And Other Review Sites
If you have ever surfed the internet and looked for a great place to spend your money, you probably saw a lot of ads for review sites. Most likely, you clicked on at least a few of them. Reading online reviews was something that was very common at the time and there were plenty of them to choose from. The problem was that most of the reviews were either completely negative or they were written by people who didn’t really know what they’re talking about. Today, there are a couple of new review sites that are helping consumers decide which products to buy instead of just blindly reading through the testimonials of others. These auctions, via sites such as selhoo are also available online.
Let’s start by looking at yelp. According to one study found in Popular Science, customers prefer to read reviews on Yelp over 60% of the time. In fact, a survey of one hundred and twenty participants found that most people were more likely to buy a product or service from companies with positive user reviews than those with negative ones. So how did that information get to be in Popular Science? The study was done by researchers at Stanford and the University of California. Basically, the more positive reviews someone leaves on one of these review sites, the more likely they are to purchase a product.
There are a couple reasons why that one study found that people were more likely to buy from companies with positive user reviews. First of all, the people who read through negative reviews are more likely to write negative reviews themselves. According to the same study, half of the people who wrote a review on Yelp actually turned around and wrote a bad review for the same product or service on their own website! That’s not great advertising for a business. On the other hand, half of the people who wrote a positive review for a local business also had a positive experience with the business.
In fact, it turns out that the people who wrote the good reviews for local businesses were three times more likely to do business with the same company on their website than the people who wrote a negative review. So really, the importance of Yelp and customer reviews doesn’t lie so much in what customers think, but in how customers feel about the businesses next to them. In this case, the positive reviews were a lot more helpful to the businesses than the negative reviews were. If you’re going to be an entrepreneur and you want to use customer reviews to your advantage, you need to realize that there are going to be plenty of people out there who are going to be critical of your business. You can’t let that deter you from promoting your business!
But don’t let the negativity stop you, either. While the people reviewing your business on Yelp and other review sites may not necessarily think your service is bad, many of them will have a reason to. They may have gotten a bad haircut, had bad experiences with a plumber or were disappointed by an online store. If you keep a calm and detached attitude and focus on the positive aspects of each negative review, you can probably use it as a means to improve on the things that went wrong. Positive customer reviews are a great way to attract new clients and build your reputation online.
And remember, negative reviews shouldn’t be ignored. These shouldn’t be taken personally, and should be taken as just that – a review. If you have something to hide, no one will really know if you did or didn’t. Use reviews to your advantage, but don’t go overboard and use them as the only form of advertising you use. Use them to draw people into your online store, build a positive reputation and get those valuable links back to your website.
